Prabowo: Weak Currency Mirror Weak Economy

FaktaId. Presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo Subianto again mentioned the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar which was still weak. According to Prabowo, a weak rupiah currency is a mirror that the Indonesian economy is also weak.

"A weak currency is a weak mirror of the economy, if the strong economy of our currency is strong," Prabowo said in the 'Chat with 300 Generals & Intellectuals' event, in Jakarta, Saturday (9/22).

Prabowo said there had been a decline in the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar in the past five years. According to him, in the past five years, US $ 1 was equal to Rp. 9 thousand, while at this time US $ 1 almost reached Rp. 15 thousand.
"So the wealth value of Indonesia goes down," said the General Chair of the Gerindra Party.

Prabowo said that the weak value of the currency was also due to injustice in Indonesia. The former Commander General of the Special Forces Command (Kopassus Danjen) said 1 percent of the people controlled 45 percent of Indonesia's wealth.

Not only that, said Prabowo, the land problem was even worse because 1 percent of the people controlled 80 percent of Indonesia's land.
"Injustice has caused our nation to be weak, not competitive, as evidenced by our weakening rupiah," he said.

"All of the indicators show that we are in a bad condition. Are there a lot of reporters? Will I say I'm looking for mistakes, but no," Prabowo added.

The rupiah exchange rate which moved weaker to penetrate Rp14,920 per US dollar at the beginning of September has the potential to hoist the price of a number of goods. Price increases mainly occur in imported products and those that use imported raw materials.

Prabowo Says Government Bank Directors Are Not Siding with the People

Prabowo then said that the directors of the government banks did not have partiality to the small people. Prabowo said that this was because the red-plate banks did not provide much credit to small and medium-sized entrepreneurs in Indonesia.

"This proves that there is no partiality from the directors of the government bank. There is no patriotism, there is no sense of responsibility," Prabowo said.
"I think the directors of BUMN must be held accountable at some time," he added.

Prabowo said based on an explanation delivered by Rizal Ramli, former Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs in the era of President Joko Widodo, more loans from state banks were given to large entrepreneurs.

According to the General Chair of the Gerindra Party, 83 percent of the credit goes to big businessmen, while only 17 percent is received by small and medium entrepreneurs.

"That from the credit from state banks, imagine this, this public money, the government bank of public money, farmers' savings, the savings of civil servants are in the state bank, but credit is given 83 percent to large entrepreneurs," he said.
